The practice of illegal mining is ages old in resource rich and resource stripped Africa. Governments have battled with this informal sector for decades with laws that seek to place illegal miners under a legal regime. Every now and then there is a wave of tough talking rhetoric by Government officials and company bosses. Sometimes, this is backed by state security forces that shut down illegal mining operations. But often the miners return. The problem grows, impacting the economy and the climate such as indiscriminate pollution of water bodies like rivers and streams which in turn harms marine life.  But when churches, agencies and Governments work together we can make a real difference. So, ADF will eventually be calling on the African and Caribbean Diaspora to take action against illegal mining in Africa. Creative online resources will assist churches and organisations crack down on illegal mining and corruption.
